Holi is celebrated as the victory of good over evil. It is the festival of colours and is famous among people of India for the interesting rituals which includes playing and throwing splash of colours over each other, meeting friends and family and enjoying a feast of delicious delicacies prepared on this occasion. Holi is also celebrated as a thanksgiving for a fruitful harvest in the onset of summer. It is said to be a time for enjoying warm spring’s abundance of colours and bidding farewell to cold winter.
A special assembly was conducted on this event in MAMS SW to introduce school students to the significance of the festival and the story behind the celebration. Emphasising the need for precaution and safety, the students of grades 4 to 11 were asked to play safe Holi by using natural colours instead of chemical colours. They were made aware not to waste water and not to include customary violence, which is quite prevalent and witnessed quite often.
Their Class teachers went around applying colours on their foreheads and cheeks. All students and teachers felt the exuberance of warmth and the joy of vibrant colours applied on them. There was laughter, joy and merry making in the air as the students got their group photographs clicked. They would remember the day spent cheerfully and left the school with joyous colourful memories
