Born in Sukkhar (Sindh), Pakistan he migrated to India as a young boy with his family in early 1930s. His early education took place at Bhalla College, Haridwar and he went on to pursue bachelors in Economics from Lucknow University.

Post his graduation, he joined family timber business and was posted at Tanakpur, Parwanoo, Yamuna Nagar and so on. Once the timber trade was nationalized, he then went on to form a new base in Jammu and Kashmir. He has been in business for over 50 years and continues to trade actively till date. He is a founder trustee and a key figure behind the establishment of this institution.
