The 1st Semi – Final was played between DAV and Welham. In an edge of the seat encounter that went the distance, Welham prevailed over DAV in the tie break after the match was tied 3-3 at full time.
The 2nd Semi – Final was played between DIS and Genesis in which DIS had the lead for majority of the match but towards the end Genesis boys picked up their game and eventually secured victory 2-1.
The Final was a classic that was played between the two most deserving teams of the tournament: Genesis Global School, Noida and defending champions Welham Boys’ School, Dehradun. Both teams began cautiously knowing that this match could go either way. Although Genesis led comfortably 2-0 towards the end of the first half but they let Welham bounce back with two quick goals as soon as play resumed after break. Welham scored again leading the crowd to believe that this match was done and dusted but Genesis scored right back to make the tie even more interesting. At full time the game was tied at 3-3. In the penalty shoot out, both teams kept scoring till the very last shot. The Genesis keeper saved the final shot by Welham to drive their team to victory and be crowned the deserving champions of Director’s Cup 7-a-side Football Tournament. The seemingly underdogs, had scripted a fairytale victory to the delight of the audience winning many a hearts with their skillful play.
