There were around 60 schools and 120 delegates from all zones of #India that attended the AFS 4th National Meet at Sunbeam School Varuna, Varanasi, and #MAMS was one of the lucky few to attend such a stimulating event. The theme of the event was “#Embrace #Diversity and #Inspire” which truly was experienced over the course of our conferences that took place for 3 days.
The Chief Guest of the event was renowned #educator, Dr. Sumer Singh, Former Principal of Daly College, Indore. The opening ceremony of the AFS event started with the melodious ‘Sur Prabha’ which was prepared by the Sunbeam Varuna orchestra. It was followed by the felicitation of the Board members followed by a briefing about what AFS is, their vision & mission, their methods and how we as a community can grow. This was followed by a bone-chilling performance by the students of Sunbeam School on the theme “hope for a world without wars” which inspired us to think about how our world is becoming more indifferent as each day passes and how we can change this by such meaningful interactions where all cultures are represented and collaborative learning takes place. AFS helps #students to become #global citizens that uphold peace and display leadership beyond boundaries, which is the need of the hour.
After the tea break, we were blessed with the keynote address by the great educator Dr. Sumer Singh who talked about how AFS is not a competition but an amalgamation of all schools working towards a common goal of unity. He suggested that schools can have triangular exchange programs covering three countries so that an exchange student can imbibe two different cultures on a visit abroad. He also stressed on organising eye camps because in India people are often ignorant towards it and are less fortunate to get eye checkups done at ease. He also mentioned having the prospect of organizing career fairs on campus so that people can make informed career decisions. He reiterated the idea of visiting government schools to teach underserved children to bring about educational equity. His address was not only enlightening but invigorating as well. His book ‘Folklore History of India’ was officially released which was warmly welcomed by everyone.
